Corporate Worship September 11, 2011

Meditating on Psalm 100

The Old 100th is a psalm that goes from liturgical commands to the “why” of the commands and back again.  These commands are calling us to worship: “shout,” “know,” “serve,” “come” and the “why” of the commands is based on certain truths: “The Lord is God,” “He made us,” and “we belong to Him.”

I continually return to this Psalm as a guide for corporate worship because it invites us to experience emotions based on the knowledge of who God is and what he has done for us.  The knowledge of who god is and what he has done wells up inside us until it explodes into shouts of joy and gladness.

This Sunday we will meditate on Psalm 100 in such a way as to be glad that the Lord is God, to take joy in the fact that he made us and to find comfort that because of the work of Jesus, we belong to Him.

We are gathered in the name of the Lord…
Thanks be to God!

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
O praise Him, alleluia
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
Ye clouds that sail in heav'n along
O praise Him, alleluia
Thou rising moon in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him, alleluia
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
And praise the Spirit, Three in One
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Forever Reign

You are good. You are good when there's nothing good in me
You are love. You are love on display for all to see
You are light. You are light when the darkness closes in
You are hope. You are hope. You have covered all my sin

You are peace. You are peace when my fear is crippling
You are true. You are true even in my wandering
You are joy. You are joy. You're the reason that I sing
You are life. You are life. In You death has lost its sting

(Oh) I'm running to Your arms, I'm running to Your arms
The riches of Your love will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

You are more. You are more than my words will ever say
You are Lord. You are Lord. All creation will proclaim
You are here. You are here. In Your presence I'm made whole
You are God. You are God of all else I'm letting go

My heart will sing no other Name, Jesus, Jesus

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
© 1995 Thankyou Music / Stuart Townend / CCLI#1888005

How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure
that he should give his only son, to make a wretch his treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns his face away
as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross, my sin upon his shoulders.
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished;
his dying breath has brought me life.  I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything:  no gifts, no power, no wisdom.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ:  his death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from his reward?  I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart: his wounds have paid my ransom.

Jesus Died My Soul To Save

I stand amazed at Your love for me
That lonely night in Gethsemane
This sinner's heart can't help but thrill
To hear You pray Father not my will

What depth of love what reach of grace
Oh how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save

Atonement full applied to me
The blood that spilled at Calvary
Has swallowed all my sin and shame
I'm reconciled in Jesus' name

Oh such pleasure oh such pain
The Father's wrath and fury lay
On Christ whom saints and angels praise
Jesus died my soul to save

Come you broken bound by sin
And let your weary journey end
Come and lay your burdens down
Where mercy rules and peace abounds

The Lord is Good – Psalm 100:1-5

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

O Love that Will Not Let Me Go
©1997 Christopher Miner Music. Words: George Matheson. Music: Christopher Miner.

O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe, That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O light that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.
